“A” League qualification tournament started with Gori’s convincing victory. Iverioni coached by Dimitri Jakobov defeated opponent, Magrveti, by 91:75 and made huge step towards “A” League. On December 29th next game of the series will place and if Gori does not lose by 16 points, they will advance to “A” League.
After today’s game Iverioni is considered as favorite in second game. If they play the same way in upcoming match, “A” league will definitely have new participant. Team of Gori has been trying to advance to “A” League for 3 years already, however could not reach their goal. This year, thanks to huge supporter of basketball, businessman, Ilia Jolbiordi, Iverioni started preparations from summer. Together with great Georgian players, accountable foreigners joined the team. Before start of Qualification tournaments, Gori hold many sparing matches and was intensively preparing for the main tournament.
Their dedication was praised in today’s game, more specifically in its second half. After loosing 1st half by 7 points, Gori played wonderfully. They cut dowd difference and eventually won game by 16 points. Iverioni started qualification rounds with 3 legionaries but lost Davon Cole in first game. 2 foreigners could not achieve team’s main goal without help of local players dedication and effort. Georgian players assisted Jerman Head and Aisia Lewis a lot. After well planned game, Iverioni overcame Margveti in every component.
It was obvious that Iverioni based their tactics on team play. Margveti was taking lead until their leggionerios were scoring points thanks to individual play, however as soon as Iverioni changed tactics situation on the court was different. Thanks to close individual defense Margveti players lost balance. Meanwhile Iverioni scored important three-pointers and before start of 4th quarter advanced by 11 points.
Mamuka Turashvili and Vaja Kvaratkhelia tried to effect the game. They gave opportunity to play to several young players however could not change the final outcome. Iverioni won the game and has 16 point handicap for the next game. Jermyn Head with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assist had the best result among winners. Aizia Lewis collected 24 points, Luka Giorgadze and Mamuka Bazuashvili contributed per 11 points. Tariel Arabuli collected 22 points. As for Margveti,, Victor Lewis scored 24 points, Lary Robinson contributed 22 points.
Second game of final qualification rounds will be hold on 29th of December, at 15:30.
