Second match of the 7th round of Superleague was held today at Tbilisi Olympic Palace. Leader teams – TSU and Titebi met each other. Both teams had had 2 losses in the current championship, accordingly, the winner of this match would advance in the standings and strengthen its positions. The match didn’t turn out as tense as it should have been considering the standings. TSU, trained by Leqso Lapanashvili defeated Lasha Gamkrelidze’s Titebi by 19 points – 85:66 and took the first place for now.
The match started with an advantage of TSU. The latter was winning 19:4 after just 4 minutes. Titebi’s coach took a minute-break and his players redressed the game after returning to the court, however, TSU continued its effective play and didn’t give up on their leadership. They were giving their shooters very good opportunities, that were used properly by Sandro Sanadze, Davit Mcfarland and Riky Madison. TSU had 23-points leadership for the big break – 49:26.
Titebi was doing better from the third period, but it wasn’t enough for changing the whole situation. However, at the expense of the effectiveness of Richard Matiashvili and Tristin Walley, Gamkrelidze’s team reduced the difference to 10 points, after which Davit Mcfarland scored a three-pointer and TSU met the fourth quarter with a 13-points leadership.
In the decisive period, TSU was doing its best not to give any chance to its rivals. They went to the victory quite convincingly and gained their 5th victory after 7 matches in the current Superleague. Mcfarland became a top scorer with 19 points in TSU. However, Giorgi Korsantia was the most effective with 10 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks. Riky Madison scored 15 points, Sandro Sanadze had 13. Tristin Walley was the best in Titebi having 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Richard Matiashvili collected 15 points and 7 rebounds.
2 more matches will be held today at Tbilisi Olympic Palace. Tskhum-Apkhazeti – Dinamo and Vera – Olimpi.
