The quarterfinal series of Georgian Cup has started between TSU-Hyundai and Mgzavrebi. The match held in Tbilisi Olympic Palace ended with the convincing victory of TSU-Hyundai – 94:77. The team trained by Nikoloz Cherqezishvili defeated one of the leaders of the Superleague without difficulties and advanced in the series 1:0.
Let us remind you that playoff series, except finals, in this competition are until 2 victories. Accordingly, TSU-Hyundai needs one more victory to go to the finals. As for Mgzavrebi, they need two victories in a row.
Initially, a match was quite tense and equal. After winning the first period by 1 point, TSU-Hyundai increased the difference and advanced by 11 points – 47:36 for the big break. Mgzavrebi was trying, but wasn’t able to catch up.
The fate of the match was decided in the third period, which was won by Cherkezishvili’s team 29:13. They had 17-points leadership and it was already impossible to catch up with them in the remaining quarter. When the difference reached to 25 points, young players appeared on the court.
Victor Nickerson, James Milliken and Ratko Petric led the winners with 17-17 points each. Marcus Posley scored 16 points. Aleqsandre Pevadze had 10 points. Jintcharadze was one of the most effective players with 16 points in Mgzavrebi. Adrian Bowie scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Second match between these teams will be held on April 2. Before that, both of them have Superleague matches.
