The Super League has started. 11 teams will fight for the main title of the season in the XXX National Championship of Georgia. Today, on October 17, 1 match of the first round was held at the Tbilisi Olympic Palace. Last season’s bronze medalist Dinamo and the team of Tbilisi State University competed in the opening match of the Super League. The victory was left to the university team, coached by Leqso Lapanashvili, which played with quite an important lack of players.
Giorgi Tsintsadze, a key point-guard and a member of the national team, was missing from TSU due to injury. Tsintsadze injured cross tendons at Dudu Dadiani tournament and needs surgery. In his absence, the TSU coaching staff, which includes Dimitri Chelidze and Nugzar Cheishvili along with Lapanashvili, will have to rearrange the team on completely new rails, because a game conducted by Giorgi Tsintsadze is one thing and when another person plays the ball, it’s completely different.
As for Dinamo, the team focused on young players and consists mainly of 18-20 year old boys. Georgia’s most famous team has released a foreign specialist, Muhammad Tachi, and so far has only 2 legionnaires in the roster, neither of whom has played today. One, Rahsan Williams has not even arrived in Georgia yet, while the other has not received a release paper.
As for the match, TSU finally won by 10 points, although they were leading by 16-18 points during the game. The university team was lucky to have an American legionnaire, Lovell Cabbil, who was given more freedom and flexibility in the absence of the injured Tsintsadze. Cabbil finally scored 34 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and steals and made a huge contribution to the victory of TSU.
Excellent statistics were collected by the member of the national team, Mikheil Berishvili, who scored 28 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. As for Dinamo, Vladimer Tavaqarashvili was the best in Jolivet Toudjan’s team with 25 points. Anzor Nadiradze had 20 points and 7 rebounds.
3 matches of the first round of the Super League will be held at the Tbilisi Olympic Palace on Monday, October 18.
