In another match of the 14th round Mgzavrebi and Titebi met each other. They are on a lower side of the standings, which means that winnig this match was very important for both of them. Especially for Mgzavrebi, who had the lowest, just 3 victories in the current Superleague and losing today’s match would lead them to being the main candidate to A league.
Mgzavrebi, trained by Buba Berishvili, fought to the end and took the victory from their rivals. On the other hand, Lasha Gamkrelidze’s Titebi lost sadly. The score was equal 2 minutes before the final siren, but Mgzavrebi managed to gain a very needed advantage thanks to the good defensive tactic and accurate attacks.
Mgzavrebi managed this mostly thanks to free-throws. Soso Gognadze, Lovell Cabbil and Joseph Rocca did their jobs excellently and the winner was revealed 15 seconds before the end, when the difference increased to 4 points. Eventually, Mgzavrebi won 78:72. Taj Spencer led them with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Darell Combs collected 15 points and Joseph Rocca scored 13 points. Luke Moyer was the most effective with 20 points in Titebi. Corey Spance and Tristin Walley collected 11-11 points each.
With this victory, Mgzavrebi equalized with Tskhum-Apkhazeti, which had 4 victories and Titebi is now just 1 point ahead of them.
The audience saw an interesting and different solidarity action before this match. A young player of Titebi, a member of the U-20 team, Iva Megeneishvili, was recently injured and underwent surgery on a cross-stitches. As a sign of solidarity towards teammate and friend, all Titebi players wore special T-shirts with the tag #getwellsoon IVA before the match.
The Superleague joins the action and wishes Iva a healthy recovery.
