The first round of the Super League that started yesterday, continues at the Olympic Palace today. The first of the 2 scheduled matches is over. Game between Mgzavrebi and Cactus finished with a 14-points victory of the latter – 80:64.
Like almost all Super League teams, the composition of Cactus and Mgzavrebi is almost completely changed. Ambitions of each team should appear in the debut rounds of the Super League. It was the first match of Mgzavrebi in the current season, since Buba Berishvili’s team didn’t compete in Dudu Dadiani Memorial. So, objectively, they couldn’t be completely satisfied with this match. If they appeared good at the expense of the legionaries in the first half, they were obviously lost in the second half.
Cactus, trained by Archil Jghenti, which went to the semifinals in Dudu Dadiani Memorial, didn’t give a chance to Mgzavrebi. They won the third quarter 19:10 and advanced by 11 points before the decisive period – 60:49. Cactus retained the leadership in the final period as well and came to the deserved victory.
Brian Williams led the winners with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Justin Everett scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Mikheil Chochua contributed 13 points. Taj Spencer was the most effective with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists in Mgzavrebi. Soso Gognadze had 15 points.
Olimpi and Dinamo will meet in today’s next match.
